The Commander Mod enhances Renegade X gameplay by electing a commanding player for the team. Mainly used for communication purposes, the commander of the team will have enhanced capabilities in relaying intelligence and orders to their team, and they also gain a specialized tool to facilitate their job.

On servers with the Commander Mod, players will also be able to check on several team statistics, such as the amount of Vehicles and Advanced Engineers by bringing up the objective info window (press O by default), albeit overview map (M by default) will also yield such statistics.

The team commander is nominated, by a team vote. Upon election, a message will appear on the upper-center of the screen for the team. Details of the privileges of being the Commander are as follows:

  • Every team chat, radio command, and spotting will appear with a pink font color, along with the prefix "Commander" in brackets to differentiate his messages from the generic players' ones
  • Typing /c in the team chat at the beginning will send the message to the upper-center of the screen for the team, akin to most generic warning and important messages found throughout Renegade X.
  • He acquires a weapon defined as the Commander's Binoculars, which allow for a variety of functions:
    • Being a binocular, it can be used to see further. It also tells the distance from the commander to the pointed location in meters;
  • Markers: The Commander will be able to paint targets with markers that every player on the commander's team will be able to see.
    • "Attack": Pinpoints an enemy vehicle or building with a marker. This marker will remain indefinitely until the marked target is downed. The bar on the top of the marker will inform individually each player the distance from them to the target. Useful to see enemy vehicle movement from afar and behind cover.
    • "Defend": Pinpoints a location with a marker. This marker will remain indefinitely until a new "Defend" marker is painted. A meter counter will inform individually each player the distance from them to the target. Its function is self-explanatory: it is used to tell the team to defend the area from enemy incursion.
    • "Repair": Pinpoints an allied vehicle or base building with a marker. This marker will remain indefinitely until the marked target is completely repaired. A meter counter will inform individually each player the distance from them to the target. Used to inform which building needs repairs from longer distances compared to radio commands or spotting.
    • "Take Point": Pinpoints a location with a marker. This marker will remain indefinitely until a new "Take Point" marker is painted. A meter counter will inform individually each player the distance from them to the target. Its function is self-explanatory: it is the opposite of defend, telling the team where to move their forces.

Note that a commander in Renegade X is only an empowered communicator: it is up to the players if they wish to comply with the commander's orders.
