Development
Firestorm was originally announced as Renegade X: Firestorm on June 20, 2020, and was to be a major expansion to Renegade that would feature content from Tiberian Sun. Firestorm was heavily inspired from Tiberian Aftermath, a defunct mod for Battlefield Vietnam which aimed to create a Tiberian Sun FPS. Several of the vehicles from the mod were updated and ported into Renegade X as part of the Open Beta 5 release. Totem Arts realized that the design of the units from Tiberian Sun did not really fit the atmosphere of Renegade X, so they redesigned each unit to feel more grounded and authentic in the game.
