The Grenadier is one of the basic infantries of the Global Defense Initiative, dishing grenades that are somewhat effective against vehicles and buildings.
Appearance
Grenadiers wear military suits, along with armor plates covering the torso, kneepads, and a helmet paired with orange goggles. They carry several small bags and a radio communication device on the back.
Function
Grenadiers are equipped with a Grenade Launcher as their main weapon. It does not cost anything to get the Grenadier class. Their grenades will be fired in an arc-trajectory, allowing them to hit targets behind cover. The grenades, if fired with alternate fire, will bounce on walls, allowing grenadiers to strike behind corners as well. Since grenades do area of effect damage, it is not advised to fire them at close ranges.
Grenadiers can damage anything, but their damage is mediocre at best. They are also equipped with a backup Silenced Pistol and a Timed C4 for armors and buildings destruction.
Strategy
Usage
Grenadiers are mostly used in early rushes, since masses of them can bring down buildings fast if they fire at the Master Control Terminal. Against vehicles, an Engineer throwing Remote C4 will outdamage a Grenadier, although the latter has the advantage of a ranged attack. Lone Grenadiers usually do not go far.
Performing headshots with grenades will be able to damage basic infantry with Kelvar armor to some extent, although the trajectory of the grenade makes it harder to aim correctly.
They are also used to Pointwhore on the enemy buildings to earn some Credits due to their no cost, especially when the Tiberium Refinery has been destroyed. The no-cost of Grenadiers also makes it a nice scout in the field, in the same way as the other free infantries.
Counters
Grenadiers are weak, and they can be taken care of by most infantries, even Engineers. Since they have flak armor, bullets will do bonus damage against them. They should not be ignored, but they're on low priority unless they're carrying beacon/airstrike, close to the Master Control Terminal or are about to plant Timed C4 on vehicle. Closing in and throwing Remote C4 towards them is a viable option, since they will be most likely to aim towards your feet to hit you, and they will damage themselves in the process due to splash damage.
