The Flame Trooper is one of the basic infantries of the Brotherhood of Nod, armed with a flamethrower able to incinerate everything.

Appearance

Flame Troopers wear red colored military suits, along with a tactical vest covering both torso and legs, and a helmet paired with a gas mask with red googles. They carry a small bag and a radio communication device on the back.

Function

Flame Troopers are equipped with a Flamethrower as their main weapon. It does not cost anything to get the Flame Trooper class. They can dish decent damage to anything, be it infantry, vehicles, or buildings if they are close enough to the target. They are also a little faster than the other basic infantries, giving them a boost to catch up running opponents and setting them on fire. Any infantry struck by the flamethrower will receive the burn effect.

They sport fire-resistant suits, making them resilient to stolen Flame Tanks and Flame Trooper spies' flames. They are also equipped with a backup Silenced Pistol and a Timed C4 for armors and buildings destruction.

Strategy

Usage

Flame Troopers are mostly used in early rushes, since just two of them can quickly bring down a building if they throw their C4 and fire at the Master Control Terminal if left unattended, albeit they are outperformed by Chemical Troopers, having better armor and damage. They are also used as basic Nod infantry, able of spraying and praying and usually performing better than regular Soldiers. Still, burning the opponent's head will do bonus damage to them.

Flame Troopers serves as a cheap alternative against vehicles, particularly versus Mobile Rocket Launcher Systems and Mammoth Tanks, since the two vehicles are not able to him targets directly adjacent to them, and they lack the speed to ram the Flame Trooper over. Lastly, fire can obscure the view of both enemy and ally, especially with plenty of Flame Troopers fighting in narrow locations, chaos is ensured.

A Flame Trooper will prefer to fight in enclosed spots, such as tunnels or chokepoints, leaving less space for snipers to spot him and more chances to jump out of a corner to ambush opponents passing by, trapping them into the fire grasp.

They are also used to get Mystery Crates without spending Credits due to their increased speed. The no-cost of Flame Troopers also makes it a nice scout in the field, in the same way as the other free infantries.

Counters

There are two kinds of Flame Troopers mindsets: those who rush recklessly, having nothing to lose, and the cunning ones, waiting to ambush you. The first kind of Flame Troopers will usually go down before reaching you, especially when sniper infantry is employed to take them out from afar. Keep your distance while shooting at the pursuing Flame Trooper, since he can only harm you when he is near your position.

For the second kind, sniping will mostly not be an option, due to the cunning Flame Trooper prioritizing closed spaces or hiding behind rocks and under bushes. If the Flame Trooper ambushes you, try to avoid the flames, by going behind them or moving in circles. Do not try to run away, since he will most likely incinerate you before you can reach a safe distance.

Always be on lookout in tunnels, and move slowly but steadily through any corners and intersections, since Flame Troopers are more likely to be setting up ambushes behind corners. Consider employing third-person view to possibly spot them in order to not get caught off guard.

If you are an Engineer, you can drop Remote C4 to either blow the Flame Trooper up or make him circumvent them; both will give you more time to react.
